NEW MOON IN Cancer (04 degrees) 9:06 am PDT, Sunday June 25, 2006

With five of the ten planets in water signs, this New Moon is a time to get out of our head and into our heart. Cancer, the first water sign, reminds us that humans, like plants, require specific conditions for optimal growth. An orchid wilts in the desert; a cactus molds in a rain forest. No nourishment, no growth. This New Moon asks us to reflect on what "waters" us - what supports our body, feeds our heart, broadens our horizons, and satisfies our soul.

And how do we know what's good for us? Cancer rules nourishment and feelings. Emotions are like Geiger counters, letting us know when we're getting closer or farther from what we need. The more we are aligned with what is good for us, the better we feel. Our moods tell us where we are and where we want to be. It's no coincidence that the words "moon" and "mood" come from the same cognate. Feelings and needs ebb and flow. Our job is to track our feelings as indicators of necessities, from our fundamental need for food to our spiritual need for creativity and growth.

Several planetary aspects make it easier for us to identify what is essential for us now. Neptune at 20° Aquarius sesquiquadrates the Sun and Moon, enlarging our sense of family and sources of support. A sesquiquadrate is an aspect of 135° - a square (90°) + a half (45°); although it's not as pushy as a square, it nudges us to become more accepting and inclusive. Any aspect from an outer planet to an inner one alters our sense of identity; in this case, we're reminded of our spiritual origins. As the esoteric ruler of Cancer, Neptune represents the ultimate goal of the fourth sign: unconditional love for ourselves and others.

Two more sesquiquadrates add their energies to this New Moon. Saturn at 10° Leo sesquiquadrates Pluto at 25° Sagittarius, revealing whatever is out of alignment with our soul essence and purpose. During Saturn's transit through Leo (July 16, 2005 to September 2, 2007), the Reaper will call to task the entire Baby Boomer generation and everyone who was born during Pluto's passage through Leo (October 8, 1937 to June 11, 1958). Transiting Saturn conjunct natal Pluto brings us in touch with our power and pushes us to manifest our mission. The farther off our path we are, the more changes we have to make. For clues about what is ending and beginning for you, reflect on the period of Saturn's last passage through Leo (September 17, 1975 to July 26, 1978).

Mercury at 28° Cancer sesquiquadrates Uranus at 15° Pisces, directing us to consider our gut feelings, dreams, and synchronicities as important sources of information. This year, the Messenger spends almost all of its retrograde periods in the three water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), doubling the time he normally spends transiting these intuitive signs - and thus doubling the message to "Think Different."

This New Moon reminds us of the importance of turning inward and checking our ideas against our internal truth meter. It reminds us that sometimes we must do something even though it does not seem to make sense. "A reporter interviewing A. J. Muste, who during the Vietnam War stood in front of the White House night after night with a candle, one rainy night asked, `Mr. Muste, do you really think you are going to change the policies of this country by standing out here alone at night with a candle?' Opportunity Periods are a wonderful tool to maximize our efforts. Opportunity Periods reflect favorable aspects of the Moon. The energies of the Moon impact us in a very direct way. Using the positive energies that the Moon showers upon the Earth, to our benefit, makes good sense. Opportunity Periods have proven to provide helpful energy to non routine tasks. If you feel like you are always going against the grain and things are stressful, try using these time periods for more easily accomplishing important tasks: purchases, repairs, client appointments, sales calls, important phone calls, finishing goals, starting new projects, tying up loose ends, starting new relationships ( except when Venus is Retrograde), job hunting, doctor visits, family meetings, etc. The list of OP's for the next two weeks are listed under the calendar section of this update.

PLAN YOUR OWN NEW MOON CEREMONY. Give yourself some quiet time in meditation to see where you need to seed new ways of becoming. List these areas within your life you want to change. What areas do you want to break free from the norm and become more productive and discerning? I am now _______ . Remember, think, envision and feel with as much emotion as possible, as though you already have what you want. Thoughts are things and the brain manifests exactly what you show it in the form of thoughts, visuals and emotions.
