NEW MOON IN LIBRA (29 degrees) 11:15 pm PDT, Saturday, October 21, 2006

On Friday, The Moon in Libra is entering the 3 day New Moon Window. The Moon entered the sign of Libra yesterday afternoon, joining Venus, the Sun, and Mars in this sign of “the other”. Thus, bringing to the forefront issues of conscious, equal partnership. How do we bring the ideals of balance and harmony down from the airy realms and make them work here in the everyday world. As the Moon passes through the sign of Libra and into Scorpio over the next few days she will activate each of these individual planets, inviting us to plant the seeds of right relationship we would like to see flower over the next month in all areas of our lives.

New Moons are always excellent times to check our inner compass and clarify our intentions. This Libra New Moon directs our focus toward openness rather than fear, connection rather than division. Venus and Mars are even more closely involved with this New Moon than with the last Full Moon, amplifying the message to make love, not war. The 29th degree of any sign represents a completion and a test of what we have mastered. Are we still bending the Golden Rule? Are we still enjoying the game of separation? Are we ready to play a different game?

Uranus, the mythic God of Creation and Chaos, also aspects the Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mars, nudging us to wake up and smell the unity which mobilizes us to act on our inner truth. During Uranus's passage through Pisces (March 2003 to March 2011), he galvanizes major shifts in how we experience time and space, opening us to the more subtle realities of energy, intuition, and the interconnectedness of all life.

Mercury, the Roman Messenger of the Gods, representing thought and perception, is tightly conjunct Jupiter, the King of the Gods and the largest planet, in Scorpio; this makes it easier to see the big picture and to let go of false assumptions. Because of the upcoming retrograde station on October 28, Mercury doubles his time in Scorpio this year, moving through the sign of truth or consequences from October 1 through December 7. Both Mercury and Jupiter closely square Saturn at 23° Leo, challenging us to "square" our lives with what we know in our hearts. This is the third of three Jupiter-Saturn squares, a spiritual upgrade that began late last year, when Jupiter squared Saturn on December 16 at 11° Scorpio-Leo and again on June 22, 2006 at 9° Scorpio-Leo. Jupiter rules vision and hope; Saturn, form and effort. Their third square marks the close of a reorganization phase and the readiness to solidify a new reality.

Neptune at 17° Aquarius creates a powerful t-square with Saturn and Jupiter, pushing for real progress rather than superficial changes. Fixed signs focus and consolidate energy; a fixed t-square keeps the heat on until resistance breaks into action. The "empty leg" opposite the planets being squared indicates what is needed for resolution; in this case, Taurus, the implementation of "right values," offers the way out of the dilemma. What do we want now and for the long term? Where do our time, energy, and resources need to go? This combination challenges us to remember and fulfill the mission we chose when we incarnated on Earth at this pivotal time. Since World War II, all of the outer planets have passed through Libra: Neptune (1942-1957), Uranus (1968-1975), and Pluto (1971-1984) -promoting the Libran ideals of egalitarianism, solidarity, and peace.
