FULL MOON IN CANCER, Wednesday, January 3rd at 05:58 am PST (13 degrees)

A new door now opens. This Full Moon challenges our reference points and illuminates new pathways. January was named after Janus, the Roman guardian of gateways who was depicted with two faces: one contemplating the past; the other, the future. Derived from jauna, archaic Italian for "door," Janus and January represent the crossing of an important threshold. What did we learn and accomplish last year? What do we wish to know and see in 2007?

Capricorn and its ruling planet, Saturn, are also linked with time and gateways. Saturn has long been associated with agriculture and the Law of Karma ("As ye sow, so shall ye reap''); it is also portrayed as Father Time and the Grim Reaper. The ancient Greeks believed that souls arrived through the Gate of Cancer (the Cosmic Womb) and departed through the Gate of Death in Capricorn. They also had two distinct words for time: cairos, designating eternity or cyclic time, and chronos, signifying mundane or linear time. Synchronicity (from syn, united, and chronos, time) occurs at the intersection of these two dimensions of reality, appearing as a meaningful coincidence and confirmation that we are aligned with the divine order. What if synchronicity were the norm, rather than a freak occurrence? This Full Moon invites us to deepen our connection with sacred time and sacred work.

Saturn is moving retrograde until April 19, symbolizing a major re-evaluation of all the structures in our lives. Saturn governs form on all levels - from the more visible elements of our vocation and public image to the more subtle patterns of our ego and how we relate to authority. Since Saturn is the only retrograde planet until February 14, core issues around profession and power are starkly highlighted during this Full Moon and for the next six weeks. Where Saturn is transiting retrograde in your natal chart is the area where you are most concerned with re-evaluating your responsibilities, redefining your boundaries, and redirecting your creative energy.

Mercury conjuncts the Sun, making it easier to align mind with essence. Energy follows thought; what we are thinking, we are broadcasting. The Sun shines into the corners of our psyche, showing us where we still look outside ourselves for permission or approval. Capricorn represents the development of an internalized authority; ultimately, we realize that we are the masters of our fate and the final judge of our actions. The Sun and Mercury's sextile with Uranus in Pisces helps us to understand that the Law of Karma is not about punishment but about recognizing correlation - that whatever we do to another, we will experience ourselves.

Mars approaches a conjunction with Pluto in Sagittarius (exact on January 13 at 27°) igniting our old fears and dogmas but also helping us to burn through them. When Mars and Pluto meet, sparks can fly and impulsive action, the norm; it is easy to jump to conclusions. Take the time to be tolerant and understanding. Each person has a unique vantage point and background. Pluto brings out the shadow of Mars in Sagittarius: self-righteousness and hypocrisy. Issues around power and the use of force also come to a head. The last time these two planets conjoined was January 28, 2005 at 24° Sagittarius. What have we learned since then? What are we ready to see now?

Use the power of this Full Moon to determine whether you need a change in cast, scene, or plot, and remember: "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." PERSONAL MOON CEREMONY Find the time to have your own private Moon Ceremony. You have a three day window of energy in which to manifest your intentions. The day before, the day of, and the day after.

For the Full Moon, jot down two or three areas of your life you want to clean up. The Full Moon is the time to release or get rid of the things that no longer serve you, so by the next New Moon your slate is clean for new beginnings, or fertile for the planting of new seeds.

Possible phrasing: I now release______ from my life. I now release my destructive ________ patterns. I now let go of fear, jealousy, anger, envy, negative thinking, etc... Remember, think and envision as though you have already let go of what you have released. See yourself free and living your dreams. Thoughts are things and the brain manifests exactly what you show it in the form of thoughts and visuals about yourself. The Buddha said, and I am paraphrasing, "We are the sum total of our thoughts up to today. " If we want to be different then we must change our thoughts. What you think about grows!! "If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you've always got." CONSCIOUS CHANGE is the key.

A Full Moon symbolizes the fulfillment of the seeds planted at a previous New Moon or some earlier cycle. Each Full Moon reminds us of the seeds that may be coming to maturity, to their fullness, to fruition, to the place where the fruits or gifts are received. It may seem that fulfillment of our goals takes a long time. Some intentions may manifest within the two week phase prior to the next New or Full Moon. Some however, depending on their complexity, may take a much longer time. Just remember that our thoughts and emotions set Universal Action in motion and much work takes place behind the scenes as everything is orchestrated for fulfillment. Keep visualizing your goals as though you have already attained them and they will eventually manifest. Do not concern yourself with current conditions or worry about controlling it. The universe takes care of those details. Just keep seeing what you want and give no energy to what you don't want. Patience is required.
