FULL MOON IN LEO February 1, 2007 at 9:45 pm PST (13 degrees)

Once more the Moon is opposite the Sun. Once more we feel pushed and pulled by opposing forces, until we are able to arrive at a new synthesis. Change is the only constant, and no sign is more focused on progress and change than Aquarius. What is no longer working? Where do we go from here?

The modern ruler of Aquarius, Uranus, is closely conjunct Ceres, reawakening the power of the feminine. Ceres represents the principle of nourishment and renewal. What is healthy? What is sustainable? What is the highest good for all? Saturn's ongoing opposition to Neptune and wide conjunction with the Moon spotlights the areas in our life where we need to clarify our priorities and reclaim our power. The disparities between our dreams and our reality become clearer as the Sun conjuncts Neptune at 19°30' Aquarius on February 8 and opposes Saturn at 22° Leo two days later.

The eternal struggle between the old order and the new is illustrated by the mythology of Saturn and Uranus, the ancient and modern rulers of Aquarius. Saturn was the youngest of seven sons born of Uranus (the God of the Heavens) and Gaia (the great Earth Mother). Uranus was disappointed with his offspring and banished them to the lowest part of the Underworld: With the aid of Gaia, Saturn was able to escape and overthrow his father. Fearing the same fate, Saturn swallowed his own children but was eventually deposed by one of his sons, Jupiter, whose escape and conquest were also aided by a female figure. Myths represent psychological and spiritual truths; this one reminds us that we cannot suppress our creative urges forever and that when the masculine has become oppressive, the feminine must step forward for transformation to occur.

The Sun is closely conjunct the asteroid Pallas Athene, whose mythic tale parallels that of Saturn and Uranus. Pallas's mother was the Titan sea goddess Metis, who aided Jupiter in defeating Saturn and was later ravished by Jupiter. When Jupiter was warned that he would be overthrown by Metis's child, he swallowed her, just as his father, Saturn, had swallowed him. And just as his father could not keep him down, Jupiter had to release Pallas. In some versions, Pallas springs from the head of Jupiter; in others, she is released when a double-edged axe (a matriarchal symbol) relieves Jupiter's headache. Since time immemorial, those in power have attempted to eradicate whatever would disrupt the status quo. What have we been swallowing? What has become intolerable? What is struggling to be born?

Chiron, Neptune, and Mercury are also in Aquarius, adding their votes for freedom, equality, and innovation. Chiron's once-every-50-years passage through Aquarius (2005-2011) heals the wounds of alienation and isolation. Neptune's less frequent ingress into Aquarius (once in 168 years) and its longer transit through that sign (1998-2012) continue to remind us that we are not alone and that every one of us is an important part of the whole. Mercury's position at the very last degree of Aquarius encourages us to express our highest ideals. Pluto's semi-square to the Sun propels us to question outdated beliefs and assumptions. What are we afraid of? Where are we being called to take a stand? What do we love more than anything?

This Full Moon invites us to take some time out to evaluate where we want to go next. This Full Moon reminds us: "If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we are not really living. Growth demands a temporary surrender of security." (Gail Sheehy)

PERSONAL MOON CEREMONY Find the time to have your own private Moon Ceremony. You have a three day window of energy in which to manifest your intentions. The day before, the day of, and the day after.

For the Full Moon, jot down two or three areas of your life you want to clean up. The Full Moon is the time to release or get rid of the things that no longer serve you, so by the next New Moon your slate is clean for new beginnings, or fertile for the planting of new seeds.

Possible phrasing: I now release______ from my life. I now release my destructive ________ patterns. I now let go of fear, jealousy, anger, envy, negative thinking, etc... Remember, think and envision as though you have already let go of what you have released. See yourself free and living your dreams. Thoughts are things and the brain manifests exactly what you show it in the form of thoughts and visuals about yourself. The Buddha said, and I am paraphrasing, "We are the sum total of our thoughts up to today. " If we want to be different then we must change our thoughts. What you think about grows!! "If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you've always got." CONSCIOUS CHANGE is the key.

A Full Moon symbolizes the fulfillment of the seeds planted at a previous New Moon or some earlier cycle. Each Full Moon reminds us of the seeds that may be coming to maturity, to their fullness, to fruition, to the place where the fruits or gifts are received. It may seem that fulfillment of our goals takes a long time. Some intentions may manifest within the two week phase prior to the next New or Full Moon. Some however, depending on their complexity, may take a much longer time. Just remember that our thoughts and emotions set Universal Action in motion and much work takes place behind the scenes as everything is orchestrated for fulfillment. Keep visualizing your goals as though you have already attained them and they will eventually manifest. Do not concern yourself with current conditions or worry about controlling it. The universe takes care of those details. Just keep seeing what you want and give no energy to what you don't want. Patience is required.
