FULL MOON IN VIRGO LUNAR ECLIPSE March 3, 2007 at 3:18 pm PST (13 degrees)

A Lunar Eclipse from the Buddhist perspective is an extraordinarily auspicious time as this is also one of the four major annual Buddhist days of celebration (Düchen): the last of the fifteen days at the start of the new year that celebrate the fifteen days on which, in order to increase the merit and aid in the devotion of future disciples, Buddha displayed a different miracle.

From this perspective the effects of one's actions, positive and negative, are multiplied 1000 times during a lunar eclipse and 10 million times on a Düchen. So on this day that would be 10 billion. Hard to comprehend isn't it? One way of considering this effect is in terms of the energetic channels being more open.

The word for Moon comes from the same root as the words for month and mood. The constantly changing appearance of the Moon symbolizes the eternal ebb and flow of creation, as well as the continual fluctuations taking place in our bodies and emotions. During a lunar eclipse, we experience the Moon more directly, without the light it normally reflects from the Sun. As the Moon moves into the shadow of the Earth, our attention is drawn into the dark, into the unconscious. A lunar eclipse stirs up what has been in the shadows and increases our awareness of hidden motivations and fears.

This lunar eclipse highlights the polarity of Pisces and Virgo, making both their spiritual goals and their traps more apparent. Pisces is the sign most concerned with compassion and transcendence. Where Pisces, the twelfth sign speaks to the end of the game of separation, where we realize the intrinsic interconnectedness and divinity of all things; the shadow side of Pisces gets lost in addiction, codependency, or victimization. Virgo is the sign most concerned with discernment and purification; its shadow side falls into pettiness, self-deprecation, and martyrdom. From June 22, 2006 to December 18, 2007, the transiting lunar nodes are in Pisces-Virgo, calling for a collective shift from fear to trust, from judgment to compassion, and from duality to unity consciousness. Eclipses run in 19-year cycles. On March 3, 1988, there was a lunar eclipse at 13° Virgo-Pisces; events and issues important then are cycling around to be completed or taken to the next level.

The power of this lunar eclipse is amplified by Uranus's close conjunction with the Sun and opposition to the Moon. The Sun represents both our ego and our divine essence; the Moon, our emotional body and cellular memory. Uranus's proximity to both energetically downloads a new program for consciousness; a more expanded awareness becomes widely available, if we are open and receptive to it. Meditation, a walk on the beach or in the woods, or any kind of quiet contemplation facilitates receiving this subtle but powerful transmission. Just as some software upgrades require a hardware upgrade, our bodies have to adjust themselves to hold a higher vibration, and we may feel "wired" or uncomfortable until the body becomes accustomed to the change. Listen to your body and give yourself extra rest and nutritional support. This can also be a highly creative and inspiring time for artists, healers, and anyone who is open to higher dimensional energies.

Because of Retrograde motion, Uranus will be in an extended square with Jupiter for much of this year. The combined energies of the God of Change (Uranus) and the God of Expansion (Jupiter) facilitate insight, imagination, and inventiveness, especially around their exact squares on January 22, May 10, and October 9 this year. Jupiter and Uranus last conjoined on February 15, 1997 at 6° Aquarius; their current square traces back to that time, offering opportunities for significant breakthroughs on all levels. Jupiter's square to the Sun and Moon during this eclipse helps us to expand our perspective and understanding of our place in the larger scheme of things. The mutable t-square formed by the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter helps to make new connections and new horizons more noticeable. The Sun conjuncts Uranus on March 5 and squares Jupiter exactly on March 9, so this optimistic, exploratory energy remains readily available for the first part of March.

PERSONAL MOON CEREMONY Find the time to have your own private Moon Ceremony. You have a three day window of energy in which to manifest your intentions. The day before, the day of, and the day after.

For the Full Moon, jot down two or three areas of your life you want to clean up. The Full Moon is the time to release or get rid of the things that no longer serve you, so by the next New Moon your slate is clean for new beginnings, or fertile for the planting of new seeds.

Possible phrasing: I now release______ from my life. I now release my destructive ________ patterns. I now let go of fear, jealousy, anger, envy, negative thinking, etc... Remember, think and envision as though you have already let go of what you have released. See yourself free and living your dreams. Thoughts are things and the brain manifests exactly what you show it in the form of thoughts and visuals about yourself. The Buddha said, and I am paraphrasing, "We are the sum total of our thoughts up to today. " If we want to be different then we must change our thoughts. What you think about grows!! "If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you've always got." CONSCIOUS CHANGE is the key.

A Full Moon symbolizes the fulfillment of the seeds planted at a previous New Moon or some earlier cycle. Each Full Moon reminds us of the seeds that may be coming to maturity, to their fullness, to fruition, to the place where the fruits or gifts are received. It may seem that fulfillment of our goals takes a long time. Some intentions may manifest within the two week phase prior to the next New or Full Moon. Some however, depending on their complexity, may take a much longer time. Just remember that our thoughts and emotions set Universal Action in motion and much work takes place behind the scenes as everything is orchestrated for fulfillment. Keep visualizing your goals as though you have already attained them and they will eventually manifest. Do not concern yourself with current conditions or worry about controlling it. The universe takes care of those details. Just keep seeing what you want and give no energy to what you don't want. Patience is required.
