Relationships are the trenches of life. They offer a mirror and a path to wholeness. We discover more about ourselves than we would alone. We gravitate toward what we have not yet developed or recognized in ourselves. An introvert draws an extrovert, an artist intrigues a scientist, a tortoise magnetizes a hare. Opposites attract - and the greater the dissimilarity, the greater the charge. A New Moon in Libra invites us to reflect on our relationships and what we want from them. What do we cherish? What do we fear? What do we need to embrace? The aspects to this New Moon soften distinctions and defenses while guiding us toward greater acceptance, appreciation, and altruism.

Venus, the ruler of Libra, is in Virgo, the sign preceding Libra. The more we have achieved the personal integration required by Virgo, the better prepared we are for a balanced exchange in Libra. Limitations and priorities are clarified as Venus makes its third conjunction with Saturn. In Virgo, Venus conjunct Saturn concentrates our attention on improving our partnerships, health, and finances. This New Moon and the week following provide an excellent framework for heart-to-heart talks and setting new objectives.

Jupiter and Uranus just completed their third square this year (January 22, May 10, October 9). Jupiter in Sagittarius expands our horizons and our capacity to envision new possibilities; Uranus in Pisces galvanizes our sixth sense and our ability to intuit and innovate. A square represents a turning point - in this case, a potential shift in how we form and maintain alliances, as we move away from rigid roles toward greater freedom and authenticity. This square relates back to February 15, 1997, the last conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus at 5°55' Aquarius. What was happening in your life then? What could you do differently now?

Mercury is poised to turn retrograde on October 11 at 9°05' Scorpio, moving backward until November 1, when it stations direct at 23°22' Libra. The shadow point, when Mercury again reaches 9°05' Scorpio and fully completes its retrograde phase, is on November 17. Mercury in Scorpio guides us into the unconscious, revealing hidden motivations and underscoring the direct correlation between honesty and intimacy. While retrograde, Mercury prompts us to clear up old resentments and misunderstandings. Blame keeps us stuck; forgiveness lets us move on.

We need to live according to our conscience rather than convention, recognizing that if we are true to ourselves, it will be easier to find our spiritual kin and community. Speaking our truth can be especially transformative at this time - for healing our personal relationships and furthering our social ideals. Much could change with a little effort and "with a little help from our friends."

The Buddha said, and I am paraphrasing, "We are the sum total of our thoughts up to today. " If we want to be different then we must change our thoughts. "If you always do what you've always done then you'll always get what you've always got." CONSCIOUS CHANGE is the key.
